DUI task force nets 1,053 arrests

by Sandra Haros and Brandon Donahoo/KTAR (September 7th, 2009 @ 4:58pm)

PHOENIX - Police have been blanketing the entire state looking for drunk drivers the past few weeks in a Labor Day crackdown. The campaign called "Over the Limit, Under Arrest," started Friday, Aug. 21 and will end Monday, Sep. 7.

So far, officers have make 1,053 DUI arrests. 118 were aggravated DUIs, 935 were misdemeanor and 359 were Extreme (.15 or above). The average blood alcohol content has been .144 which is almost double the legal limit of .08.

Officers have handed out 96 minor/underage DUI arrests and have also issued 104 DUI drug citations.

Alberto Gutier with the Governor's Office of Highway Safety says drive hammered, get nailed, and it's just not worth it.

"It's important people realize what the dangers and consequences are," Gutier said of driving drunk. "I've seen people lose their jobs that they've had for years because they were drunk and they got caught."

Gutier added that it will cost thousands of dollars in fines and court costs to get squared away after a DUI, something that is quite costly in this economy.

Is it just a coinsidence that the state is broke, and DUI arrests are such a priority. All the jails, courts, attorneys, counselors, interlock, elec.monotring,MAD,AA,MVD, are laughing all the way to the bank. Why does a judges son in Pinal Co. work for PCI, a process called SCRAM!!!! Smell the Coffee. I have, and something really stinks!!!!

While there is any drug defined in section 13-3401 or its metabolite in the person's body. Read title 13 section 3401 and find out just what constitutes a DUI drugs No Impairment Required.....
