Surprise Lands Pro Tennis Tournament

Tennis anybody? The City of Surprise has landed the biggest sports event in its history.

``It's called the Cancer Treatment Centers of America championships which is going to take place Nov. 5-9 this year. It's the first annual event," said Jim Courier, one of the tennis legends who will compete.

Cancer Treatment Centers of America has signed a three-year deal as title sponsor of the Surprise event in the Outback Champions Series.

Courier said the tennis circuit ``really looks for places like Surprise that have fantastic tennis facilities. They have a 25-court facility here that's just tailor-made for an event like ours, where we can come in and have a tournament that will really stand out and we can bring something that will be really beneficial to the community."

John McEnroe and Pete Sampras are among other players expected to compete.
