Thousands still without power

by Brian Rackham/News-Talk 92.3 KTAR (December 8th, 2009 @ 3:50pm)

PHOENIX - The day after a major storm pounded Arizona, thousands are still without power.

APS reports 3,000 Valley home remain blacked out, but says service should be restored to most of them soon. However, Northern Arizona is a different story.

Crews are working to restore power to 14,000 customers - residents in the Pine-Strawberry area are among the hardest hit - because lines are down in the snow and APS crews cannot reach them to make repairs. They say some residents may not have power until Wednesday, but emergency shelters are being set up to help.

Really?? So what is APS/SRP doing with those yearly rate hikes??? Are they purchasing/bringing in state of the art equipment? Are they updating/modifying existing equipment? Are they rebuilding outdated structures and power lines? Every year the cost of their services climbs higher and higher, and yet, in the wake of a small storm such as this, people remain without power? At what point is the Az Corporation Commission going to mandate that these two power sources, account for their expenditures and acquisitons? Something is WAY out of balance here....
