TEMPE, Ariz. -- Tempe police have announced the arrest of a McClintock High School student who apparently brought a loaded firearm on campus.

Police said 15-year-old Larue Jaquile Johnson was arrested at a relative's home in Tempe Wednesday morning.

Police said Johnson and another male student had an off-campus altercation last week and the teen made additional threats to the same student Monday at school.

Security employees were escorting Johnson to the school office when he fled the campus, leaving his backpack behind which they say contained a loaded firearm.

School administrators and school security immediately placed the campus under modified lockdown.

The school sent home a letter with the students to inform parents and guardians about the incident.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.

kids don't seem to grasp the concept of violence or the actions they take. I remember back in high school, during the early 80s, I'd pull up in my truck, in the auto shop area, with shotguns visible, in their cases. An afternoon hunting trip would be waiting. Today, that's expulsion and jail time in some cases. In twenty-five years we've turned into a society of violence and disrespect. I can't imagine what it will be like for my eight-year old daughter. In fact, I don't want to know!

and i think the parents should, in some way, be held accountable...did they never discuss weapons with this child...did they nver supervise him? too many violent video games and movies...this society is brain dead..and parents who allow it should be held just as responsible....

It's just like a video game; you pull the trigger and kill a few animated figures. It's all harmless fun.
  • What fine, outstanding youth
