ASU hosts SDSU in non-conference bout

by Tyler Bassett (December 18th, 2009 @ 2:02pm)

TEMPE, Ariz. - With the Pac-10 conference schedule right around the corner Arizona State will get another tuneup on Saturday when they host San Diego State.

The Aztecs - riding a five-game winning streak - are 8-2 on the season with their losses coming on the road against St. Mary's and Pacific.

Their most recent game was last Saturday when they defeated Arizona 63-46.

Freshman Kawhi Leonard led the way with 13 points and 12 rebounds for SDSU. In the last three games he has scored 13 or more points and is averaging 9.9 for the season.

Leonard's most impressive game came earlier this month in a win against Cal-State Fullerton when he went for 23 points, 18 rebounds, and five assists.

Arizona State has had impressive play themselves as of late - particularly from senior point guard Derek Glasser.

Glasser leads the team with 12.8 points per game and 5.6 assists per game - both are career highs.

Playing in 30 or more games in his first three years and barring an injury he will play in more than 30 this season, Glasser is set to become the school career assist leader with six more assists.

Glasser leads the Pac-10 with a 3.1 assist-to-turnover ratio.

In last Saturday's win the Sun Devils were led by Victor Rudd who led the team with 15 points.

Arizona State last played on Saturday - a 76-34 win over Delaware State. In the past 10 games with five or more days of rest the Sun Devils are 9-1.
