Cardinals being careful with Warner after taking hit

by Tyler Bassett (November 23rd, 2009 @ 11:01am)

TEMPE, Ariz - Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner left Sunday's game after taking a blow to the head in the second quarter with what was thought as a possible concussion.

On Monday morning coach Ken Whisenhunt felt Warner would not be out long term and would probably be fine to play next Sunday when the Cardinals travel to Tennessee to play the Titans.

"Seemed fine on the plane last night," Whisenhunt said when talking with Sports 620 KTAR's Doug & Wolf. "He just showed concussion like symptoms it was more precautionary than anything."

Warner was in uniform but on the sideline for the start of the second half as Matt Leinart took over.

Whisenhunt says being careful is just something you have to do when dealing with injuries to the head.

On Sunday Warner had said there was no memory loss, just a "slight" headache after the game.

"I felt pretty good coming out right after halftime, but I just wanted to be smart," Warner said. "It was one of those situations where I didn't feel perfect."

Warner was 15 for 19 for 203 yards and two touchdowns, helping the Cardinals take a 21-3 lead. It was unclear when Warner was injured although he took a hard hit from safety O.J. Atogwe on a blitz on his last drive.

Warner hasn't had a concussion since 2003 when he was the Rams starting quarterback. That game ended up being the last game he would start for St. Louis.

Its disappointing to see that they arent with as much talent these two teams have and the youth they have in depth to favor and establish my point...Its going to be a tough game. Its going to be a statement game for Arizona who as a team are curbing around that losing culture against a team the Tennessee Titans who are out to set an example and have something to prove to the world.

I dont see this as a win/loss game. I see it as a "where we are as a unit/statement" game. Where is Arizona? How far have they come together? They've all been together for 3 yrs. Arizona and Tennesse should be dynasty teams like the Bill Bellichick Patriots, the Chuck Knoll Steelers, the Tom Landry Cowboys, the Don Schula Dolphins etc (you get my point).

They have to play very physical because like you said that O line is third best in the leauge. If they cant contain young, he's going to open up the play-actions, boot legs, and runs for CJ. They have to shut down Young early and make them play from behind. Its going to be a challenge for Arizona. To be honest, I wouldnt mind them getting thier arses kicked!

1)Hit Vince young. 2) Hit Vince Young. 3) Get to the quarterback and hit him so hard that he thinks twice and second guesses himself. Tennesse's Game Plan: Vince Young will take off running to lure in the big pass play or set up the QB scramble "Chris Johnson" crack-back. Thats all they did against Houston. Arizona, watch out for the Chris Johnson crackback but be careful if he turns it upfield for the pass. That is why the D Line has to get to Vince Young and hit him.
