Teenagers are notoriously dubbed as bad drivers. Thanks to “Teen Driver,” a new system debuted in the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu, parents can track their child’s performance behind the wheel, WIRED.com reported.

The new system allows parents to:

  • • Put speed limits on the car
  • • Enable safety features such as stability and traction control, park assist and blind spot monitoring
  • • Generate a report with total distance travelled, maximum speed reached, number of speed warnings issued, and any antilock or stability control events

This technology is not anything unique: Performance-tracking and an on-board camera are already offered in the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette and several other automakers, such as Ford, offer similar features.

While some might argue these new features could help curb their child’s reckless driving, Car and Driver suggested the technology does nothing to prevent one of the biggest dangers on the road: distracted driving.

Distracted driving, defined as taking one’s hands, eyes or mind off the wheel or the road, accounted for 3,328 deaths in 2012, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The 2016 Chevorlet Malibu will debut at the New York Auto Show in April.
