Survey reveals favorite TV shows of Democrats, Republicans

...

This is the story that YOU wanted to hear us talk about! It received 64 percent of the vote in our Radioactive poll!

As you may have surmised, there are some television shows that turn off adherents to one political party while being embraced by the other side of the aisle.

This has been confirmed by a national poll recently conducted by Entertainment Weekly and research firm Experian Marketing Services. EW says the poll was “taken in the field” for more than a year and completed last summer, although the results have just been released.

If a show didn’t appear on a list for either Democrats or Republicans, that means it doesn’t draw a heavily partisan audience. More than 25,000 U.S. adults were asked about their political leanings and their favorite entertainment shows — excluding news and sports programs.

Comedies like NBC/Yahoo’s “Community”, NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” and IFC’s “Portlandia” are favorites among Democrats, as are late night programs like “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” and “Real Time with Bill Maher.”

Republican favorites include A&E’s “Duck Dynasty,” CBS’ “NCIS” and “Person of Interest” as well as five HGTV programs. In perhaps a surprise, the post-“The Walking Dead” chat show “Talking Dead” appeared on the GOP list of favorites.

Several reality series appeared on both lists.

One anomaly in the study is that Fox’s “New Girl” managed to get on both lists, which [Experian analyst John] Fetto says can happen in the unlikely event that card-carrying partisans of both stripes are partial to the same show compared to unregistered voters or Independents.

Below are the full lists of shows that disproportionately appeal to members of one political party over another:
