Review: Guns in home raises risk of suicide, homicide

As the gun debate rages on in America, a new review said keeping guns in the home increases the risks of both suicide and homicide.
According to NBC News, the review combined the findings of 15 studies conducted on the topic.
Andrew Anglemyer and other researchers said they found 14 of the 15 studies showed an increase in the likelihood of either a suicide or homicide in a home where guns are kept.
“Firearms cause an estimated 31,000 deaths annually in the United States,” they wrote in their report, published in the Annals of Internal Medicine. “Data from the 16-state National Violent Death Reporting System indicate that 51.8 percent of deaths from suicide in 2009 were firearm-related; among homicide victims, 66.5 percent were firearm-related.”
The report said that people who keep a gun at home were two to three times more likely to be killed.
