There was a celebration for a championship basketball team Sunday at US Airways Center, and if you weren’t there, you missed a great party.
The only professional basketball team we have that has awarded its players rings has awarded them three over the last few years.
They are the best in their field of basketball, and when they’re told, “You play like a girl,” they just say, “Thank you.”
Yes, the Phoenix Mercury of the WNBA has done it again, and attendance and ratings have never been higher. But to all too many, it’s still thought of as “hoops light.”
Really? Did you ever see Brittney Griner slam one through the hoop? What about Diana Taurasi sinking a series of NBA 3-pointers? Sandy Brondello’s brilliant coaching?
This is a team that finished the 2014 season 36-6. This is a team in a league that doesn’t feel that sexual orientation is a headline story and the only performance-enhancing drug used commonly is Midol.
