Blog bombs

“Who is that masked man?”
That’s what they always used to ask about The Lone Ranger. But in the last couple of days, Arizona has discovered that we have our own figure wrapped in a cloak of mystery and anonymity.
And Superintendent of Public Instruction John Huppenthal doesn’t need The Lone Ranger’s signature silver bullet either, now that his highly inflammatory blogs have come back to him in the form of a digital suppository.
Huppenthal, who happens to be running for re-election, has been posting blogs under assumed computer names. That’s done every day by most of us, but he’s a publicly elected figure in charge of Arizona’s public school systems. And the important thing about the formerly anonymous blogs is that they include references to welfare recipients as pigs, comparing Planned Parenthood to the Holocaust and blaming F.D.R. for the Depression.
It should be noted that many of the postings were also pro-Huppenthal. Once it was discovered he was actually the author, naturally he apologized to those he may have offended.
That’s me, John!
I’m Pat McMahon.
