Jodi Arias, come on down!
The actual cost of your murder trial, along with the penalty phase, as of this week is $2,150,536 and 42 cents, and since Arizona taxpayers will be footing that bill, can we all agree that the “price is wrong”?
Oh, the numbers are correct, but for a trial to cost that much and for the expenses to continue with no end in sight — that’s wrong!
The trial was held and a verdict was handed down by the jury: Guilty of first degree murder, which seemed right at the time, considering the fact that the victim’s throat was slit and he was shot in the head, in addition to some 30 knife wounds.
That’s about as “first degree” as you can get.
That jury, however, was not able to agree on her sentence: Death, life or incarceration for some other period of time, so in order to get a death penalty verdict, a new jury will convene March 17th.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
That’s right, folks! We all begin paying for a new trial — an issue that could have been resolved if everyone had simply agreed not to seek the death penalty.
I don’t know where you stand on capital punishment, but as costs head toward $3 million, this whole trial is killing me.
