So, did you take MLK Day off? Martin Luther King. No, not the one that started the Reformation and the Protestant church.
Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., the symbol of civil rights here in America. Yes, the black guy with a dream.
And, you know that’s the way it was Monday for some folks. Not bigots, not racists, just folks who knew the office was closed, but they still got paid. Folks who have forgotten. Folks of all colors and backgrounds who picked out a place to have lunch Monday without ever wondering if they would be served. Folks who carried bottled water with them on their walk without the picture of a time when drinking fountains were labeled “White” and “Colored.”
Schools were closed Monday — not for some, but for all. And over the weekend, we watched sports where the only things that were the same color were a team’s uniforms.
So, thanks for the day off, Dr. King. But more than anything, thanks for the dream.
I’m Pat McMahon.
