My New Year’s resolution is to save money for good tickets to America’s biggest sports events — all of them played right here in the Valley of the Sun. Imagine a parlay like this: The Super Bowl right here in University of Phoenix Stadium in 2015, the championship of the 2016 College Football Playoff in 2016 and in 2017 a College Football Playoff semifinal all in the same domed venue.
Not enough big time sports events in the Phoenix metro area for you? Well, in addition to the possibility of the Suns, D-backs, Coyotes and Cardinals having an annual shot at their playoffs, an announcement is expected to be made some time in January about site choices for the NCAA basketball tournament’s Final Four from 2017-2020.
We’ve never had it here and it’s one of the most sought after attractions in all of sports. It’s the Super Bowl of hoops, and Valley delegates are making their presentation this week. Hey Santa, I’ll take an I.O.U. for any of them.
