Three little children called Jimmy Leyvas dad. He was also an uncle, a brother and he was his mother's only son. "She's devastated. She's not completely there anymore because she's missing a piece of her heart," says his sister, Jill.
Jimmy and Jill were especially close. They were one year apart and they shared the same birthday. "German chocolate cake, that's his favorite cake."
She and her sister Mandy say he was the family comedian. "He was always joking and always trying to pull pranks on us."
He did magic tricks for all the kids in the family and taught himself how to play the accordian. "And he would try singing to it, but he wasn't a very good singer," the sisters laughed.
But laughter gave way to tears. "I miss everything about him. I miss so much about him . . . Why him?"
Jimmy loved to go on fishing trips. "He would come back with big fish."
He made his living as a carpenter. "He was the best carpenter I know. He could anything."
He and his coworker, Felizardo Figueroa died while remodeling a house near 19th Avenue and Sunland. "This is just the cold-blooded murder of two young men," says Phoenix Police Sergeant Paul Penzone.
He says it was just before 2 p.m. on the afternoon of August 17th, 2005 when two men burst through the door of the house. "Unprovoked and unexpected, these two Hispanic males opened fire on them shooting both Jimmy and Felizardo," killing them.
The suspects are described as in their 20s, 5-foot-5, medium build. "There was a witness nearby who saw a Dodge Neon leaving the area and believe that the person inside the car fit the description of one of the suspects."
