John McCain is the least popular senator in the country, according to a new poll.

Just 36 percent of Arizona voters approve of the longtime Republican, while 56 percent disapprove, a Public Policy Polling survey found.

Those are the worst numbers the North Carolina-based organization has found in polling more than 90 sitting senators across all 50 states.

"His problem is that voters in his own party don't even like him that much," said Tom Jensen, Public Policy Polling Director.

"When you antagonize your own party base and don't gain popularity with anybody else in the process you're not going to be doing very well."

Just 50 percent of Arizona Republicans approve of McCain, while 39 percent disapprove.

Those number are much worse among Democrats and independents.

You've stayed too long at the party John
I used to love you John. But now you're just another political hack who is more concerned with keeping your pay, perks & power than with doing what's right. Long term incumbancy is the biggest cancer on the US body-politic today. Even as a Republican, I'd rather see a 1st Democrat in office than a 6th term Republican. When they are there that long, it changes them. We need to get rid of our sacred cows. But we need Dems to do the same on their side.

Remove all career politicans. Term limits need to be pasted now. With restrictions to family member running for office. I rweally hate to see Megan McCain run for office one Giant disappointment is enough from that family.

    Time for him to leave.
I can agree. I have never liked him. He is a "flip flopper" in my opinion. Sorry that he was a POW, but that shouldn't be what keeps him in office. There were a lot of POWs.

i did like him, even voted for him for president. biggest mistake i made, but glad obama still won. he needs to retire, or get re-captured by the group who kept him a PoW.

All politicians are in it for power & money......
..lets face it. But the reason McCain's numbers are so low is that the tea partiers dont like him because he tries to work with the other side of the aisle and the dems dont like him becasue they're not supposed to like any republicans.

    Not suprising
Senator McCain is a complete disappointment. He puts his own political ambitions before service to the state and country. I am sure he is hard working, but the results speak for themselves. His approach at immigration reform was a total joke. The fact that he spent at least one entire year running for president while shirking his responsibility as a senator and also collecting pay as a senator is just unbearable. I wish I could have my current employer pay me for one year while I look for another job, and then take me back if I can't find one. Career politicians are not effective.

    THAT
also goes for obummer (about the running for office while getting a paycheck). I am Republican and the only reason I voted for him was he had "R" after his name. I really wanted JD to win that way we could get rid of him again in 6 years. I will have to vote Democrat if this dufus runs again. I always thought he would really have spinters in his but as he would always ride the fence on so many issues.

    I always
wondered why he just didn't go sit on the other side of the isle. Democratic Senator Manchine (sp) of WV is more of a Republican that McCain is.

    I wouldn't
wish for a 1st time Democrat......we already have that in the WH. How is that working out for ya. My suggestion is to get a strong Conservative for Kyle and then when McCain comes up again do the same. I would love to see McCain and his daughter never again on my TV or computer.
