It was a “Rudy” moment and then some for Deer Valley High School student Jose Meraz on Monday night.
The Glendale boys’ basketball team manager made his way onto the court, this time to play. Wearing uniform No. 45, Meraz checked into the game with the clock winding down. Teammates got the ball to him. Meraz took a shot from the three-point line and nailed it as time expired in a 77-37 victory.
Classmates then rallied on Twitter to get video of the shot on sports news TV giant ESPN. They nailed it, too. The shot made the “Top Ten Plays of the Night” segment on “SportsCenter.”
High fives for everybody.
