I don’t cook very often but since I got married it has become a holiday tradition to make Chex Mix the week before Christmas with my husband’s 90-year-old grandmother, Gigi.
It’s a fun way to spend the day together, and we always fill-up a bunch of holiday containers to share with family and friends.
There’s no better tasting gift than Gigi’s homemade Chex Mix!
Grandma Gigi’s Chex Mix
Ingredients
3 cups Corn Chex cereal
3 cups Rice Chex cereal
3 cups Wheat Chex cereal
2 cups deluxe roasted mixed nuts (salted)
1/2 cup premium cashews (salted)
1/2 cup cocktail peanuts
1/2 stick salted butter
3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons garlic powder
Directions
Pre-heat oven to 250 degrees
In large roasting pan melt butter in the oven
Remove pan from the oven and add Chex cereal and nuts
Add Worcestershire sauce and garlic powder
Stir mixture vigorously to make sure ingredients are coated evenly
Bake 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes (we actually remove the pan from the oven to stir & taste)
* The key is to taste throughout the cooking process and to add more Worcestershire sauce and/or garlic powder as needed. Grandma says the more garlic the better!
Cool for about 30 minutes and enjoy!
