Makeovers help cancer patients forget ‘if only for a second’

Dec 15, 2013, 8:00 PM | Updated: Dec 16, 2013, 7:01 pm

It may not be Christmas-related, but this feel-good, emotional video has become viral — and for good reason.

The short montage features 20 cancer patients from the European-based Mimi Foundation who receive makeovers but are asked to keep their eyes shut for the entire process.

When they open their eyes, they stare into a one-way mirror that has a photographer on the other side, ready to capture the very first second of their reaction.

The goal? To make these cancer patients, many of them terminal, forget their illness…”if only for a second.”

The Mimi Foundation focuses on cancer patients in Belgium, France and Switzerland and currently helps 15,000 patients a year, operating solely on private funds.
