With the ongoing threats of a government shutdown if the Affordale Care Act is not defunded, the sketch comedy show “Saturday Night Live” jumped in the conversation by opening its episode Saturday with a skit riffing on “Obamacare.”
The skit depicts President Barack Obama, played by Jay Pharoah, giving a speech on the benefits of the health care law. Several people approach the podium throughout the president’s speech and testify as to how the health law is helping them or a family member. Let’s just say many of their health care needs are rather silly.
“Breaking Bad” star Aaron Paul also appears in the skit, playing his character from the popular AMC show. The president stops him before he gives away any spoilers on the show’s final episode, which airs Sunday night.
There is also a characterization of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) in the clip. Cruz led a 21-hour talkathon earlier in the week where he derided the health law and made a case to have it defunded.
