What if we're fighting the wrong war when it comes to obesity?

I recently watched a fascinating TED talk from an emergency room doctor who admits compassion for overweight and obese patients often is not quite as deep as it is for those who are sick with a disease through no fault of their own, like cancer.

He asks the question, "What if some of our fundamental ideas on obesity were just plain wrong? Even worse, what if we're blaming the victim instead of the condition?"

I don't pretend to be a medical expert, but I have to believe that this idea is worth looking into.
