The receipt and the pastor's message is shown. (Reddit photo)

A Texas pastor has spoken out after she was lambasted on the Internet for supposedly failing to leave a server a tip and instead leaving a condescending message.

According to MSNBC, the customer, who identified herself as a pastor, wrote "I give God 10%, Why do you get 18?" as well as putting a zero in the tip space.

The customer was supposedly part of a party of 20 people -- something she denies -- that split the check in an attempt to avoid paying the 18 percent gratuity fee, regardless of the fact that the same person payed all of the tabs.

She took her message to the airwaves and said she actually left a second cash tip and is using the viral nature of the story to spread the gospel.

    Really!
I think everyone should be a server to learn how to dine out! To the person whom said they just had coffee why should they tip 18% - 20 people came in, took up 4 or 5 tables for an hour or two and spent under 40 dollars while the server making 4.50 an hour with a smile on their face refilling their waters and coffees more than 5 times each then cleaning the mess they left doesn't deserve $6.29 or more! Wonder how that "Pastor" would feel if twenty people came and took up his pews on Sunday and didn't put anything in the donation basket?

    Hilarious
Look at all of the fools falling for this story as if it is true. No doubt this is an Atheist in his effort to discredit Christianity. Just like the Socialist party(Democrats), attack the opposition and make them defend false accusations whether true or not. Party of 20, 18% gratuity is included without a choice. Again, nothing but propaganda from the Christian hating left.

    tip or not
the pastor tried to AVOID THE TIP in the first place, how shady is that? WWJD indeed. I'm sure he'd say, "Hey Paul, have them split the check so we don't have to tip our server". The pastor tried and failed (so it seams) to avoid a tip. How this get's politicized by some people here is just nuts. Likening this to Obama OR republicans is just ignorant.

What Would Your Mom Do if she was sitting next to cheapskate PASTOR eye roll what disgusting behavior..i know people who work in restaurants get paid low wages and sometimes have to share tips with people who work at bar or bouncer..so i always tip a decent amount even if it is embarrassing to leave a handful of change along with greenbacks.. also the servers do not need a frakken LECTURE written on the slip leave that for you now empty pews

    FYI
Yes this is real, the pastor is a real person and she did leave the comment on the Applebee's receipt. She has also complained to Applebee's about the harassment she has received over the photo and the waitress has been fired. While her comment was in poor taste, the pastor did leave the full 6.29 tip. Of course the full story was left out to make the pastor look bad...weird that's from MSNBC.

    So the waitress was fired
over this, well that makes complete sense. Maybe the pastor can cough up some of that 10% to help support this now un-employed waitress. Amen, nice job.

    Minimum Tipping Wage
It may be prudent to consider that when a business pays $3.50(minimum tipping wage) it would be quite the priority of the waiter to make sure they get tips as best seen possible. You get what you incentivize....don't want people griping about their tips, don't have a 3.50 minimum wage.

Look at the receipt again folks
Amount of bill was $34.93, 18% tip was $6.29. The picture of the receipt here shows them factored seperately. She scribbled that out and also marked $0 for the additional tip, which means that she didn't tip at all because she only paid the food amount before the 18% tip. Restaurants do one of two things in group bills, they either add the gratuity on automatically or they tell you what that gratuity is going to be. So, unless there's a picture of the whole receipt to know how much the food was with taxes, then who knows if she paid any tip. It was in bad taste and not very christian of her.
