Jean Valjean, a prisoner, is released from prison and eventually breaks his parole by trying to make a new life for himself. He is ruthlessly chased by policeman, Javert, while taking care of factory worker Fantine's daughter, Cosette.
Bruce St. James said, "I admit, this is tough for me. I am hardly a fan of musicals but am trying to put my "objective" hat on. The movie looks and feels BIG, the A-list actors bring award worthy performances and the story is timeless. Those are the good things. The simpleton in me wants to complain how difficult it was to follow the story when all but maybe 3 lines of the movie are sung, or part of large musical productions. If you like musicals, it's great. If you don't... it's a musical!"
