Police are hot on the trail of jewel thieves.

Our first case takes us to a beautiful home in the shadow of the Praying Monk, just west of Camelback Mountain. It was in the wee morning hours of Sunday, May 3, 2015 when someone scaled a nine-foot perimeter wall, got into the house and went straight for $2 million in jewels.

“There’s a diamond choker, a lot of earrings, a gold and diamond set and a rock crystal-and-diamond cuff bracelet,” Phoenix Police detective Kimberly Bates said.

The jewelry wasn’t in a typical hiding place, so police believe the thief or thieves had prior knowledge of where to find it.

And because the items are so unusual, Bates said “it would have to be sold somewhere through the proper channels. It couldn’t just be sold on Craigslist or at a pawn shop.”

Next, it’s apparent this pair of jewel thieves had been casing Arizona Gold and Diamond at 17th Street and Indian School Toad.

This heist happened Friday, April 17, 2015 at just after 5 p.m.

The owner was closing up but two men — one with blonde-tipped dreadlocks and wearing a black and red skull cap — were waiting for him just outside the back door.

“The first suspect hit the victim on the head with a handgun while the second suspect took the victim’s backpack containing jewelry, cash and coins,” Bates said.

The thieves also ripped the video surveillance out of wall before locking the victim in the bathroom. They took off in a 2005 white Pontiac Sunfire.
