A summer of loss for a West Valley middle school.

"Basically two months out of the 2012 summer, Desert Sands Middle School at 63rd Ave. and Campbell was broken into multiple times," said Phoenix Police Sgt. Darren Burch. "The thieves caused a lot of damage and stole computer equipment and cameras."

It appears the thieves are aware of the school's security system and take steps to get around it.

"They've broken glass block windows and even gone through walls to get inside," said Burch.

Next, we head to the Safeway at 51st Ave. and Baseline. A man and woman walk into the store and grab a grocery cart. They appear to be shopping until they grab a bottle of liquor and leave the store without paying.

Burch said, at that point, it was a basic shoplifting but things got much more serious as one of the store's security workers followed them outside.

"The male suspect grabbed at his waist like he had a gun, simulating a weapon. That's when the crime became a felony robbery."
