November 12, 2012 [RE-BROADCAST OF 1/18/10]

Police are searching for two men who shot and killed a father in Mesa on the Monday before Christmas.

Phoenix police sergeant Darren Burch described the tragic, terrifying case.

"Two Hispanic male subjects approached a 15-year-old girl in her driveway at 130 E. McKellips Drive," Burch said. "The suspects began to run towards her, [and] scared her, so then she ran to her home screaming, alerting her father that these two unknown people were chasing after her."

Burch says the teen, her mother, father and her little brother all pushed against the door trying to keep the bad guys out.

"Unfortunately the suspects fired rounds through the door striking and killing the father, injuring and wounding both the 15-year-old girl and the 7-year-old boy," Burch said.

Imagine what Christmas must have been like for that family.

Police do not have a motive at this time.

"It's unknown if the suspects might have had the wrong home [or] whether or not they knew the suspect," Burch said.

However, there were witnesses.

"We have witnesses that observed the two suspects get into a red truck and drive out of the mobile home park," Burch said. "We also had a witness be able to provide us with a composite rendering of one of the suspects."

The red pick-up was a newer model, two-door with tinted windows. Both suspects are Hispanic men in their early twenties with average builds. Both were wearing black hooded sweatshirts.
