Talk about a cold, heartless crime.

One-year-old Jeremy Pineda was killed by home invaders on Monday, May 10, 2011, just before 7 a.m.

Phoenix Police Sgt. Darren Burch said the boy’s grandma was babysitting Jeremy and three other children while their parents were at work. The baby was sleeping inside the apartment near Main and Horne in Mesa. Grandma stepped outside for a moment when a couple of men walked up.

“They were armed gunmen who also wore masks so she couldn’t see their faces,” he said. “She instantly realized this was going to be a robbery so she ran into the house. The men started shooting at her and one of the rounds, unfortunately, struck the 1-year-old baby.”

Burch said neither the woman nor any of the other children were hurt and a witness saw the gunmen running from the complex.

Our next case is a bank robbery at the MidFirst Bank on Bell Road at 65th Avenue. It was Monday, Sept. 17, 2012.

“What’s significant about this suspect is, instead of a mask, he was wearing a sports-style motorcycle helmet,” said Burch.

It was dark blue with white or silver stripes and matched his getaway vehicle, a sports bike, possibly a Yamaha.

The guy meant business as soon as he walked in. He was waving the gun around demanding money from the bank employees.
