Lil Wayne quickly found himself in a barrage of criticism after TMZ released a video showing the rapper stepping on an American flag while filming his new music video for "God Bless Amerika."

As expected, the incident sparked a firestorm of negative comments on Twitter, most being too obscene to post here.

The social media backlash provoked Weezy to respond, claiming it wasn't on purpose.

TMZ doesn't buy Wayne's explanation, saying, "Problem is, during the video, you can see Wayne look down on the flag at several points in the shoot, yet continues to trample all over the stars and stripes."
