The 1993 dinosaur-fraught movie "Jurassic Park," based on the book by late author Michael Crichton, was a huge box-office hit, but it only recently joined an exclusive club of blockbusters.
With its re-release in 3D in China, the Steven Spielberg-directed film surpassed $1 billion in worldwide box-office sales -- roughly 20 years after its debut. Yahoo! reports the 3D version had a $6.3 million opening in Chinese theaters this week.
The film is now the 13th-highest earning blockbuster of all time. It has joined an elite $1 billion club that includes "The Dark Knight," "Titanic" and "Marvel's The Avengers," but "Jurassic Park" is the oldest of the bunch.
