Julianne Hough apologized after media backlash surrounding the risque blackface Halloween costume she recently wore.
Hough attended a Beverly Hills event Friday evening and turned heads when showing up dressed as Suzanne "Crazy Eyes" Warren, a character from Netflix hit TV show "Orange Is The New Black." The actress' dark face makeup sent media outlets in a frenzy.
The 25-year-old "Safe Haven" actress quickly apologized on Twitter, writing, "It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way. I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize."
Fans seemingly have mixed reactions to Hough's costume, as seen in several responses to her apologetic tweet.
@juliannehough you shouldn't have to apologize! Halloween is to pretend to be someone you're not. I don't get what's so offensive. Loved it!— Amanda Kendl (@AmandaKendl) October 26, 2013
