Now, he's waiting tables and living a simple life in his cabin with no internet or television -- a big shift from the $1.3 million home he previously owned.
Entertainment Tonight recently caught up with the 36-year-old former IT analyst in his home state of Pennsylvania, where he's working as a waiter and trying to stay out of the public eye.
At the peak of his fame, Jon found himself in a highly publicized and messy divorce from former wife Kate, which he says later made it difficult to land a job.
"At first I was nervous because I was like, 'How are people going to react?'" explains Jon of his initial hesitancy to take the job. "But then I'm thinking, 'Well it's fun and I get to talk to people.' And they technically already know me...they're like 'Are you the guy?' I'm like, 'Yeah, I'm the guy.'"
Jon says he doesn't regret anything from the past and is "making the most of what he's got" -- eight kids, a dog and a lot of silverware to roll.
