SCF Arizona has been around for nearly 40 years, and now the company hopes to be around for 40 more under a new name.
SCF Arizona became privatized on Jan. 1, 2013, changing its name to CopperPoint Mutual Insurance Company. The privatization means the company is run by a board of directors and is funded entirely by employer premiums and investment returns, rather than tax dollars.
The company will also now be able to expand its coverage to outside Arizona, as well as offer other insurance products that they were previously unable to provide.
But despite the future expansion, Phyllis Senseman, Vice President of Marketing and Communications, ensured that CopperPoint Mutual is still the SCF Arizona businesses and employees have come to know and love.
“We’re a workers compensation insurance company, so we work with business owners and business leaders to provide protection to their employees for anything that might happen on the job,” Senseman explained. “We provide that protection for that business owner, so that they don’t become liable for that big claim that might come for the medical or the compensibility — meaning the paycheck — and we provide that financial backstop.”
CopperPoint Mutual will also continue to deliver their best service when it comes to helping out both business and claimants, especially when it comes to any medical needs.
“We also help them (businesses) mitigate the claims process to keep that claims cost low, ” said Senseman. “We use doctors and facilities that will provide their services at a lower cost, which can also ultimately help keep the premium lower for employers.”
For CopperPoint Mutual, community is just as important as workers compensation. Last year, the company racked up over 5,500 hours of volunteer time at both local communities and 119 organizations.
“We (CopperPoint Mutual) try to be a good citizen,” Senseman said.
