Olympics on TV is mostly ads, sob stories, and oh, a little action

Nearly a week after the start of the manufactured pomp and circumstance began, my wife and I finally sat down to watch the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

We figured it was time to watch the best in the world compete for the bragging rights. It was time to actually watch some competition.

Here’s a snapshot of our experience: When we turned on the TV, we caught the beginning of a five to eight- minute feature about a girl we never heard of from a country we never heard of. Then COMMERCIALS.

From there, we watched a very fast two-minute run down a snowy mountain, then COMMERCIALS. Then, another story about some Russian ice skaters we never heard of, then COMMERCIALS.

After the commercial break, we got to watch a four-minute ice skating routine, then COMMERCIALS. After another four-minute skating exercise, and yes, more COMMERCIALS, we were forced to watch another story about an ice skating couple, again, I never heard of. At least they were from a country I had heard of, Mother Russia.

And yes, we then sat through more COMMERCIALS.

And we wonder why people are disengaged from the Olympics.

Mike & Winey can be heard every Saturday afternoon from noon to 3 p.m. on 92.3 KTAR. Join us on Facebook.

Is NBA star LeBron James an idiot, too?

No matter how you slice it, Donald Sterling, the owner of the Los Angeles Clippers, is an idiot. Everything that spews from his mouth is drenching in stupidity, insensitivity and ignorance. I’m simply amazed that someone so witless was ever able to climb the ladder of success like he has. Now LeBron James, one of […]
