Lady Gaga surprised an excited crowd of do-gooders with an appearance at the Chicago Polar Plunge, a lake plunge/fundraiser for the Special Olympics.
Even cooler for that crowd was seeing the pop star take a dip in icy Lake Michigan right there alongside them.
“She’s pure heart,” said Casey Hogan, president of Special Olympics Chicago and its fundraising arm Special Children’s Charities, to the Chicago Tribune. “She came out for the cause — low-key, no press. It doesn’t get any better than that.”
Gaga’s appearance was a surprise, but actor Vince Vaughn was there as expected to take the plunge too.
The event raised $1.1 million for the Special Olympics, a record-setting amount in that event’s history.
