Nintendo's Wii U may be getting shoved aside by Sony's Playstation and Microsoft's Xbox, but that doesn't mean it still doesn't own one of the most successful franchises of all time.

"Mario Kart" has been a mainstay for the Japanese game-maker since its original release in the 1990s. As Nintendo has evolved, it has been one of the few games to evolve right alongside while others have fallen by the wayside.

The new trailer for "Mario Kart 8" was released Thursday and, to be honest, it looks pretty cool. While some of the aspects I have yet to adjust to (hang-gliding?), a lot of the old favorites are there.

Fans of the game are sure to recognize "Rainbow Road."
