Move over, Texas! Everything’s bigger in Dubai!
At least, as far as fireworks shows go.
A fury of fireworks was unleashed all across the Gulf Arab city on New Year’s Eve in a successful attempt to make it into the Guinness World Record books, according to Metro.
The six-minute extravaganzapalooza used 100 computers to ignite over 500,000 fireworks from 400 firing locations across 62 miles of the Dubai shoreline.
The two most spectacular spots to watch the show were not surprising: The Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest tower, and Palm Jumeirah, the manmade palm-shaped island.
City organizers said the fire and light show was meant to simulate a sunrise. There was also a massive United Arab Emirates flag made completely of fireworks.
Dubai’s fireworks show easily surpassed Kuwait, who had held the record since last year when it ignited 77,000 fireworks over a one-hour period.
