Get to work!

“It’s time for 535 of America’s citizens to remember what they owe to the 318 million who employ them.” Those words come from an open letter to Congress from three very wealthy guys — Bill Gates, Warren Buffett and Sheldon Adelson. “The three of us vary in our politics and would differ also in our preferences about the details of an immigration reform bill. But we could without doubt come together to draft a bill acceptable to each of us. We hope that fact holds a lesson: You don’t have to agree on everything in order to cooperate on matters about which you are reasonably close to agreement. It’s time that this brand of thinking finds its way to Washington.”
Publishing a letter in the New York Times is nice, but it won’t do much. Those 535 members of Congress need to hear from more of their employers who aren’t on the fringe, and agree that it’s time to fix this mess. I assume Congress will do something about the immediate crisis, but lurching from crisis to crisis is no way to run a country. If you agree it’s time for Congress to get to work on a well thought out, bi-partisan comprehensive immigration plan, here is the contact information for the 11 members who work for us. Just copy the link to the open letter, and send it to them.
