WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama says "the moment is now" for Congress to act to overhaul the nation's broken immigration laws.

Obama spoke at a White House event hours before the full Senate holds its first votes on a landmark bill. The legislation would create a path to citizenship for many of the 11 million people in the U.S. legally.

The president says the Senate bill isn't perfect and no one will get everything they want. He says the bill would be a massive investment in border security and would give employers a reliable way to check whether those they're hiring are in the country legally.

Obama also says the pathway to citizenship offered in the bill would be "no cakewalk" for those already in the country illegally.

    And
these people have documentation to prove they meet the requirements too. And this amnesty program opens the door for even more illegals to enter the USA just like these peoples families did. Secure the border, stop the continuing invasion first before any dream act amnesty actions.

    They Deserve
this opportunity. I personally know individuals in this situation and they have done nothing wrong. They have lived and work here all there lives like you and I have. They did not choose to be put in this situation. This state has been filled with a lot of individuals that have a large HATE in their hearts. Is it because of race or just mad at the world? It is not fair that this country's politicians play with their lives and only during election years is there concern for these people - yes people!!!

The Presidents latest power grab and pandering. Hey why have a Congress or Legislative process when the President outright ignores such processes. Forget the unemployment issues here and anyone who has gone through the process legally.

    Purely Political
Obama knows his days are numbered, that is the only reason he bypassed Congress with this executive order. What he does not know is that illegals (of any race) know he is only talk and no action. He has done nothing in the past 3.5 years to help the economy, trade or anything else. The lawsuits will be filed by the end of the day. Executive orders have been over turned before. Personally it is the parents responsiblity to ensure the eligbility of their minor children, not the government.

    when does this end.....
So here's the new politically (and election year) motivated decision by the OBUMMER administration; Your parents need to pay all the pro-rated taxes they didn't pay in the US while you were growing up in the US, getting educated and medical benefits with our tax dollars etc. If either you and/or your parents are here legally, then I welcome you. If not, then either pay up (like we all have too) and get legalized or GET OUT!

    Acting like a king
Let's hope that Congress is going to challenge his ability to declare one set of illegals not illegal and keep the rest of illegals, illegal. Perhaps Obama has mistaken that cardboard crown he got from his last trip to Burger King for the real thing.

    Also interesting
is Obama's DHS ignored the request of Florida to help them with identifying illegal aliens on their voter lists.

I had wondered how long it would take before he totally overthrew Congress.
