Lost 80s at 4: Walter Becker jams with Chevy Chase
Walter Becker met his musical partner Donald Fagen while attending Bard College in New York. They formed and played in many groups, one including former fellow student and current comedian/actor Chevy Chase on drums. In 1971 Becker and Fagen move to California and formed Steely Dan.
Becker's personal problems, not the least of which was getting hit by a Taxi in Manhattan, led to the initial dissolution of the band in 1981 (they reformed in 1993). Their last top ten hit came in 1981 with "Hey Nineteen."
Walter Becker turns 63 today.
