Video Hits One, or VH1, was nine days old on this date in 1985, targeting an older demographic than its sister MTV.
It was created by Warner Communications and is now part of the MTV Networks division of Viacom. The first video played was Marvin Gaye's "Star Spangled Banner". On VH1's list of the 100 Greatest Songs of the 80's, Bon Jovi's "Living On A Prayer" comes in at #1.
