Each year Yahoo! makes a list of their top ten searches throughout the year, and this year the iPhone beat out some of the more notable names in popular culture.

According to Yahoo!, the iPhone is the only device to top this chart other than the Playstation 2 which did it in 2001 and 2002.

Also big news events are rare in these lists because a single term often can't encapsulate a complex news story, still one or two did make the cut.
