Lockdown lifted at Georgia university after report of gunman turns out to be false

KENNESAW, Ga. -- Kennesaw State University in Georgia has been taken off lockdown Friday after a report of a gunman on campus proved to be false.

The school had posted an emergency alert on its website saying there was possibly an armed man on campus.

University spokeswoman Tammy DeMel says in an email that officials received a call about a suspicious man on campus with a possible weapon.

The campus, located about 30 miles north of Atlanta, was placed on lockdown as a precaution.

Located in the fast-growing suburbs north of Atlanta, Kennesaw State is the third-largest public university in the state and has more than 21,000 students.
