LA MESA, Calif. -- A motel was evacuated and a standoff began in the San Diego area Monday afternoon after shots were fired during a warrant incident.

Federal marshals tried to serve a warrant at a motel in La Mesa this morning when gunfire erupted. The suspect in question then barricaded himself inside the motel and refused to surrender. Police said no one was hit by the gunfire.

A SWAT team surrounded the motel, which has been evacuated, and was trying to get the man to surrender.
