‘Octomom’ gets March court date in fraud case

Feb 3, 2014, 9:19 PM

LOS ANGELES (AP) – “Octomom” Nadya Suleman has been scheduled to appear in court March 11 for another hearing in the welfare fraud case pending against her.

Suleman appeared in Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday for a hearing in which her attorney, Arthur LaCilento, asked the judge for documents he says are critical to his client’s defense.

Suleman spoke only to acknowledge she understood what was happening, and the two-minute hearing was over.

The 38-year-old single mother of 14 children is charged with failing to report $30,000 of income when she applied for public assistance benefits.

Prosecutors have said they will try to resolve the case without a trial if she can pay the money back.
