PHOENIX — Phoenix police say two toddlers are recovering in a hospital after nearly drowning in a swimming pool.
Police spokesman James Holmes said Friday that authorities are cautiously optimistic that a 1-year-old boy and a 2-year-old boy will make a full recovery.
According to police, firefighters were called to a home in the area of 53rd Avenue and Thomas Road before 5 p.m. Thursday.
The children were pulled from the water and taken to a hospital in critical condition. It is not yet clear how long they were in the water.
Police say the home has a fence for the pool but the gate failed to latch properly.
Holmes says it appears to be an accident.
