PHOENIX — The big fireworks show is ready to go for the Fourth of July celebration, but if you’re taking the boat out, make sure to know all the boating laws.
Kids under 12 cannot operate a jet ski without an adult. Make sure every person on board is wearing a life jacket.
“If you have someone under the age of 15 on board your boat and you are arrested for an OUI (operating under the influence), it is a felony in the state of Arizona,” said Reuben Gonzales with Arizona Game and Fish.
It’s also monsoon season. Lake staff will be reminding boaters to keep an eye on weather conditions. For instance, watch for changes in the wind and wave patterns on the lake.
“Get off the water,” Gonzales said. “It becomes difficult when you have 200 boats all headed into a 10-lane ramp trying to get off at the same time.”
That’s especially when injuries can occur.
There will be 14 law enforcement agencies monitoring statewide from the Colorado River to the mountain lakes over the holiday weekend.
