Peoria FD warn against driving into floodwaters ahead of monsoon

PHOENIX — As monsoon season gets underway in Arizona, a Phoenix-area fire department is reminding motorists that driving through floodwaters is a dangerous idea.
Tim Eiden with the Peoria Fire Department said drivers can lose control in as little as six inches of water and most vehicles will float in two feet of water.
“Before you drive through water, wait it out,” he said. “We have fast-moving storms here, the water can go down pretty quickly. If you see water, find an alternate route.”
Arizona has a Stupid Motorist Law that makes those saved from marked flood areas liable for rescue costs.
