PHOENIX — With Valley temperatures rising to a scorching 115 this week, residents are searching for a cheap safe haven to cool off.
Though a water park or local pool sound like enticing options, Rick Seaney from farecompare.com said inexpensive options are also available outside state lines.
“I haven’t seen (flights) this cheap historically out of Phoenix,” said Seaney. “Canadian cities, especially in the northeast are well over $550 round-trip, where you can get to Toronto right now and Montreal for $410 round-trip (from Phoenix).”
Late July flights are at an all-time low from Phoenix, including airfare to one specific northeast hot-spot.
“Your best bet is New York at $370 round-trip,” said Seaney. “It’s about $30 or $40 cheaper than Washington and Boston.”
Other bargain airfare round-trip, according to Seaney, include Miami at $340, Vancouver at $360 and Seattle at a wallet-friendly $260.
For even cheaper options, Seaney said to be flexible and willing to pass on non-stops. Not worrying where you sit on the plane can also contribute to less money out of your pocket.
“If you don’t want to have pre-assigned seats or more leg room and you want to sit in the back, in the cheapest seats, that’s where you are going to save your money.”
Seaney said he also expects a fall sale on airfare in the next week or two or in late August when school is back in session.
