PetSmart to lay off 15 percent of Phoenix headquarters staff

PHOENIX — Phoenix-based PetSmart will be laying off hundreds of employees this week, according to news reports.
The Arizona Republic reported Monday that 15 percent of the staff at the Phoenix headquarters was being let go.
The Phoenix Business Journal reported that CEO Michael Massey said the company had “identified areas where we need to gain efficiency.”
Last fall, the company laid off 176 workers. Before that round of job losses, the company had employed over 3,700 in the state.
PetSmart was recently listed at No. 386 on the Fortune 500 biggest U.S. companies, with a little over $7 billion in revenue.
The pet-supply chain headquarters are near Interstate 17 and Beardsley Road.
