PHOENIX — The City of Mesa is expected to announce the grand opening date of the light rail extension next week.
Mayor of Mesa John Giles will reportedly make the announcement at a lightrail milestone event on June 3.
“We are excited for the arrival of the lightrail in Mesa and we have held what’s called the milestone events celebrating the progress of the lightrail as it proceeds into downtown Mesa,” Giles said.
Giles said this next milestone event is expected to be the biggest lightrail event the city has held thus far.
“At that event we will announce what the ultimate grand opening date for the lightrail will be and that will be sometime early fall or the end of summer,” he said.
Giles said Mesa residents may notice empty lightrail trains running up and down the city’s new tracks as part of a final testing process before the grand opening.
